Bon Jovi Concert, Milton Keynes, England (June 2006)

Yes, ok. I went to the Bon Jovi concert (and dragged Steph along, he he!).

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a big fan, and I was very excited about it leading up to the event. And, of course, I enjoyed every minute of it! I don't care how much I'm living in the past. Livin' on a Prayer rocks!

The concert was originally scheduled to be at Wembley Stadium, and was set to be the big event to officially open the new venue. But seeing as it's a bit (a few years!) behind schedule the concert was at Milton Keynes. Milton Keynes as a suburb doesn't have too much going for it - it's a relatively new industrial/commercial town miles and miles out of London (and is a bit of a pain to get to/from) - but it has the advantage of having lots of open space, and the Milton Keynes Bowl is actually perfect for massive concerts, recently Green Day, Oasis and Robbie Williams have performed there recently.

With the gorgeous afternoon sun beating down on us, the show was opened in grand-fashion by Nickelback, who played for quite a while and got through pretty much all of their hit songs.

They had the crowd going early, then Bon Jovi came out and they were awesome. Their new songs weren't too bad, but it's they're older ones that everyone was there for, so everyone was rocking out to Bad Medicine, Livin' On A Prayer, Keep The Faith, It's My Life, a great version of I'll Be There For You by Richie Sambora. Plus some great covers. We actually weren't all that close to the stage, but the atmosphere was great even back on the hill.

And it was a big set list, so they played for ages - check it out:

ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD (the John Fogerty classic made famous also by Status Quo)

RUNAWAY
THE RADIO SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT

WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO HOME
IT'S MY LIFE

SOMEDAY I'LL BE SATURDAY NIGHT
KEEP THE FAITH

The main problem about the concert being back in Milton Keynes is that it's so far out of London, and there's one train line that goes back to the city. Hence a queue of 40,000 people at the train station! Transport in London is good during the day, but a real pain at night when the tube is closed, so once we were back in London it took forever to get back to my place in Hammersmith using night buses! So we were back in London, sore and tired, but all-in-all a great day spent with some absolute legends of 80's and 90's rock!

Here are some pics from the day:
