Cambridge, England (July 2006)

Another little day trip I took a couple of months back with one of my housemates. Cambridge is best known for the University of Cambridge which is the second-oldest in the English-speaking world. Lots of grand, gothic style buildings, green wide-open spaces and some great pubs set up along the river. It was basically a cruisy day spent wandering the markets, checking out some of the colleges and relaxing with a few beers on the riverbank. Here are some photos.

'Punting' is a popular activity, which involves cruising up and down the river in gondola-style flat boats. The main highlight of the day was watching all the people who had opted to row their own punts as opposed to hiring someone to do it for them - they didn't look easy to control, and it was hilarious seeing countless people running into houseboats and getting stuck in trees that overhung the river bank!

Highlight of the day was getting told off by campus police for finding an open gate to get into the grounds of one of the colleges without needing to pay (and then letting some other people know about it, so thus starting a mini-stampede of ticket-evaders!). But 5 pounds to walk around a big grassy area? What's that about?! C'mon!
